Jerod Prunty, an aide to Rep. Clay Higgins (R-La.), was arrested Saturday and faces two charges of pandering in connection with a recent prostitution bust, the Acadiana Advocate first reported.
His arrest comes after a sting operation involving human trafficking and prostitution at local massage parlors, according to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office. Eight others were also arrested last week in relation to the alleged crime.
Prunty, 47, worked in Higgins’s personal office serving as a field representative, according to Legistorm.
Higgins’s office said the reports were “deeply troubling” and that it plans to fully cooperate with the investigation.
“We are shocked and saddened to learn of allegations against Jerod. His arrest is deeply troubling. Jerod has been placed on administrative leave, pending investigation and adjudication,” they told the publication in a statement.
Prunty is out of police custody after posting $12,500 for each charge, according to local news reports.
The Hill has reached out to Higgins’s office.
