New York Democrat claims Comer’s investigation into Bidens is ‘house of cards’

Rep. Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.) slammed House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) for the investigation into President Biden’s family, calling it a “house of cards.”

Goldman also also commented on the new charges brought against Hunter Biden, the president’s son, earlier this week.

He placed blame on Republicans for “undue and improper interference” in the case after Comer claimed the Justice Department (DOJ) indicted the younger Biden just “to protect” him from being deposed by his committee.

“The only reason I think Hunter Biden was prosecuted and charged with these crimes, which almost are never charged for the gun charge and would be settled civilly for the tax charges, is because of Chairman Comer and House Republicans’ undue and improper interference in an ongoing criminal investigation,” the New York lawmaker said Friday on CNN’s The Lead with Jake Tapper.

“But that’s the least of concerns about what he said,” he added.

Following his interview with Comer, Tapper said he  “couldn’t make much sense” of what the Kentucky lawmaker was saying.

Goldman agreed, adding “I think through that whole interview, what’s up is down and what’s down is up for Chairman Comer.”

“This is a house of cards with no evidence and Chairman Comer just prove that to you,” he concluded.

Hunter Biden was indicted on new tax crimes in California on Thursday — his second indictment from special counsel David Weiss as he continues to face scrutiny over his financial dealings. Paired with his previous tax and gun charges, he could face a total of 17 years in prison if convicted.

Following the charges, Comer released a statement applauding the IRS whistleblowers that testified against Biden’s son.

“The DOJ got caught in its attempt to give Hunter an unprecedented sweetheart plea deal & today’s charges filed against Hunter are the result of IRS whistleblowers who bravely came forward,” he wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Biden’s attorney, Abbe Lowell, claimed the charges are politically motivated.

“Based on the facts and the law, if Hunter’s last name was anything other than Biden, the charges in Delaware, and now California, would not have been brought,” he said in a statement.
