Pelosi accuses Barr of ‘single-minded effort’ to protect Trump against Mueller report

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) accused Attorney General William Barr of a “single-minded effort” to protect President Trump ahead of the release of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report. 

“AG Barr has thrown out his credibility & the DOJ’s independence with his single-minded effort to protect @realDonaldTrump above all else,” Pelosi tweeted.

“The American people deserve the truth, not a sanitized version of the Mueller Report approved by the Trump Admin.”

Pelosi linked to a New York Times report that White House lawyers and Department of Justice officials have discussed details of Mueller’s report before its release to the public, which is expected Thursday.

{mosads}The two sides have had “numerous conversations,” according to the Times, reportedly allowing Trump‘s legal team to begin prepping a response to the report.

Barr is set to deliver a press conference Thursday at 9:30 a.m. before sending the report to Congress more than an hour later.

Last month, Barr sent a letter to Congress summarizing the key finding from Mueller’s report, saying that the special counsel found no criminal coordination between Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and Russia.

Pelosi and other Democrats have been critical of Barr since his four-page summary, and repeatedly urged him to release the report in full.

In March, she called the summary “condescending,” saying that “we can draw our own conclusions.”

Earlier this month, Pelosi said she doesn’t trust Barr.

“He is not the attorney general of Donald Trump. He is the attorney general of the United States. I don’t trust Barr, I trust Mueller,” Pelosi said, adding that she was “very concerned” with Barr’s handling of the investigation. 

Pelosi’s Senate counterpart, Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), also criticized Barr’s plan to hold a press conference before delivering the redacted version of the report to Congress, calling it an attempt at “pre-damage control.”
