Pelosi on Conway: ‘I’m not going to talk about her’

Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday dismissed criticism from White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, who said the California Democrat treated her like a “maid” following a contentious conversation at the White House.

“I’m not going to talk about her. I respond as the Speaker of the House to the president of the United States. Other conversations people want to have among themselves is up to them,” Pelosi told reporters during a press conference.

Conway criticized Pelosi and other Democrats Wednesday after they met with President Trump to discuss infrastructure. The meeting swiftly collapsed when the president said he could not negotiate with Democrats while they were conducting oversight investigations into the administration and after Pelosi said he had “engaged in a cover-up.”

{mosads}Pelosi after the meeting said former Presidents Thomas Jefferson and Theodore Roosevelt negotiated with their opponents to work on infrastructure, but that she was unsurprised Trump did not follow suit.

Conway turned to Pelosi and asked if she had “a direct response to the president.”

When Pelosi said that she would respond to the president, and not to his staff, Conway replied, “Really great. That’s really pro-woman of you.”

Conway criticized Pelosi again Thursday, citing the Speaker’s wealth.

“She’s the six-most rich member of Congress, she treats everybody like they’re her staff,” Conway said on Fox News. “She treats me like I’m either her maid, or her driver, or her pilot or her makeup artist and I’m not.”

Conway added that she believes Pelosi is “not very pro-woman” and is only “pro-some women, a few women.”

Pelosi is the 30th-richest member of Congress, with a net worth of roughly $16 million, according to figures compiled by Roll Call in 2018.

Conway is worth between $10 million and $39.3 million, according to her 2017 financial disclosure. She and her husband purchased a 15,000-square-foot mansion in Northwest Washington for nearly $8 million several months after she joined the administration.
