Jeffries to Trump: ‘You can run but you cannot hide’
House Democratic Caucus Chair Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) blasted President Trump on Twitter after the president demanded an apology for the House’s planned impeachment inquiry.
“Apologize? NEVER. Abuse of power is an impeachable offense,” Jeffries tweeted Wednesday evening. “You can run but you cannot hide.”

Trump’s original tweet came Wednesday morning after the release of notes summarizing his phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, which has been the subject of a whistleblower complaint alleging the president used the call to pressure Zelenskiy to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden’s son Hunter.

Jeffries, a top ally of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), announced his support for impeachment Tuesday afternoon before Pelosi’s press conference announcing the inquiry, an indication that the Speaker and other House leaders would proceed with an inquiry after months of insisting it was off the table.
“The Constitution gives Congress the responsibility to rein in a lawless President,” Jeffries tweeted Tuesday, announcing a 4 p.m. meeting of the full Democratic caucus. “We will do our job #ImpeachmentInveastigation.”
