Democrats confirm impeachment vote next week

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) on Friday officially announced that lawmakers will vote on the two articles of impeachment against President Trump next week.

“Next week, these two articles of impeachment — on abuse of power and obstruction of Congress — will come to the House Floor for consideration,” Hoyer said in a statement released shortly after a House Judiciary Committee vote approving the articles on party lines.

“The representatives of the American people will then vote on whether to send this case against the President to the Senate for trial.”

The House is expected to hold a pro forma session on Saturday to introduce the articles of impeachment, teeing up a vote likely to take place on Wednesday.

“If things continue to come together on schedule, we are looking at appropriations on Tuesday, impeachment on Wednesday and USMCA on Thursday. But this is all subject to change,” a Democratic leadership aide told The Hill, referring to the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement, a trade deal meant to replace the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Lawmakers are working to pass 12 spending bills covering the federal government’s appropriations for the fiscal year.
