Raskin says Vance is Trump’s ‘pet chameleon’

Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., speaks during the Democratic National Convention Monday, Aug. 19, 2024, in Chicago.

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) called Trump a “con man,” adding that running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), is “his pet chameleon.”

In an address at the Democratic National Convention’s first night, Raskin called out Trump for not accepting defeat while condemning the events of Jan. 6, 2021, saying that the riots at the U.S. Capitol occurred after Trump lost to Biden.

Raskin led the House committee, set up by former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), to investigate the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol.

His participation on the convention’s first night signaled a desire on the part of Democrats and their presumptive nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris, to lean into Jan. 6 as part of their messaging.

Raskin called Trump a “sore loser,” “who does not know how to take no for an answer from American voters, American courts, or American women.”
