Chip Roy says he’s not at GOP retreat, ‘spending $2K to hear more excuses for increasing deficits’
Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) confirmed he was not in attendance at the Florida retreat for House Republicans while taking a shot at those who were present.
“It is being reported I am not at the so-called Republican retreat in Florida. I am not,” Roy wrote Tuesday in a statement on the social platform X.
“I am in Texas, with my family & meeting with constituents, rather than spending $2K to hear more excuses for increasing deficits & not being in DC to deliver Trump’s border security $ ASAP.”
House Republicans meet annually for a policy retreat, which is being hosted at the Trump National Doral in Florida this year.
Party members are discussing efforts to accomplish the president’s agenda, further extending 2017 tax cuts amid border security measures at the three-day meeting, which concludes Wednesday.
Trump addressed the lawmakers Monday.
“There are a number of ideas on the table we’re talking about,” House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said when asked if leaders plan to address the debt limit through reconciliation or attach it to wildfire aid.
“We’re taking all the House Republicans to a big retreat early next week down in Florida, and we’ll finalize all those decisions.”
