Democrat Kathy Manning wins open seat in North Carolina, flipping seat

Democrat Kathy Manning is projected to win her bid for Congress on Tuesday, flipping the Republican-held seat blue, according to The Associated Press.

Manning, an attorney and small-business owner, will represent North Carolina’s 6th Congressional District. President Trump won the district by a 56 percentage point margin in 2016, but court-mandated redistricting made the district more Democratic in November 2019.

The seat is currently held by Rep. Mark Walker (R-N.C.), who announced his retirement in December. A former Republican Study Committee chairman, Walker was first elected in 2014.

Manning ran on providing affordable and accessible health care, education and job training.
