Ocasio-Cortez glides to reelection
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is projected to win reelection for her House seat representing New York’s 14th Congressional District.
The Associated Press called the race at 10:07 p.m. EST.
Ocasio-Cortez handily beat out Republican challenger John Cummings after surviving several Democratic primary challengers, winning just under 75 percent of the vote.
Known as “AOC,” she has become one of the highest-profile members of Congress, in the process becoming a favorite target of President Trump and Republicans thanks to her support for various issues like “Medicare for All” and the Green New Deal.
Ocasio-Cortez famously won election to the seat in 2018 after ousting former Rep. Joe Crowley (D-N.Y.) in the primary election and overwhelmingly beating Republican challenger Anthony Pappas. She was the youngest person elected to Congress.
