Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y.) is projected to have defeated Democratic challenger Nancy Goroff to secure a fourth term in the House.
The Associated Press called the race at 11:40 a.m. EST, more than a month after Election Day.
Zeldin is projected to have fended off a bid from Goroff, a chemist at Stony Brook University, that was closely watched for a potential Democratic gain.
The incumbent was one of just six Republicans elected to New York’s 29-person congressional delegation in 2018. Zeldin has represented a district covering the eastern half of Long Island — a mix of distant New York City suburbs, farming communities and vacation towns, since 2015.
