House Republican says he doesn’t use straws: ‘That’s what the women in my house do’

Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) said during a recent interview that he does not use straws, telling Fox News that is “what women in my house do.”

Fox News producer Johnny Belisario asked GOP lawmakers in both chambers of Congress on Thursday about host Jesse Watters’s “rules for men.”

“He says men should not drink out of a straw in public, or at all,” Belisario told Burchett.

“I don’t drink out of a straw, brother. That’s what the women in my house do,” Burchett replied.

President Trump signed an executive order in February directing the federal government to go back to using plastic straws, declaring that paper straws “don’t work.”

The directive from Trump came after former President Biden set a goal in 2024 to do away with the government’s purchasing of single-use plastics by 2035.

“Plastic production and waste have doubled over the past two decades, littering our ocean, poisoning the air of communities near production facilities, and threatening public health,” the Biden White House said in July.
