House Democrats on Monday formally released a resolution to impeach President Trump, after a draft of the Article of Impeachment circulated around the Capitol.
The resolution was drafted following last Wednesday’s Capitol riot. Trump spoke to his supporters prior to the mob breaching the Capitol, and House Democrats are charging him with “willfully inciting violence against the government of the United States” in the impeachment document.
“He also willfully made statements that encouraged — and foreseeably resulted in — imminent lawless action at the Capitol,” Democrats charge in the resolution.
Democrats are expected to vote on the resolution sometime midweek, unless Vice President Pence invokes the 25th Amendment to remove Trump first. If passed, the resolution would be the second time the House has voted to impeach Trump.
