Fred Guttenberg: Greene has ‘no place’ in Congress

Anti-gun violence activist Fred Guttenberg, whose daughter died in the Parkland, Fla., school shooting, said Rep. Marjorie Greene (R-Ga.) has ‘“no place” in Congress after her past comments and actions questioning school shootings.

Guttenberg joined the calls for House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) to remove Greene from Congress after a video surfaced this week of the now-congresswoman taunting David Hogg, a survivor of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in 2018. Hogg has also requested McCarthy call out Greene after the video gained traction.

“Kevin McCarthy, when you’re done having drinks and cake with the bully in Palm Beach, you need to come back … and you need to remove her,” Guttenberg told MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports.” “She has no place in Congress. She won — she ran a race on a lie. She’s there. It’s now your job to get her out.”

“She has called Parkland a lie, Sandy Hook a lie, Las Vegas a lie and 9/11 a lie,” he added. “And when you watch the video of her chasing David and the other kids down … she’s chasing children and not only is she harassing them she’s telling them outright that ‘I have a gun.’”

He slammed the Georgia representative for not apologizing for the recent revelations and Republican Party leadership for not taking action against her.

“She hasn’t taken it back,” he said. “She hasn’t said, ‘I was wrong.’ She hasn’t said, ‘I’m sorry.’ She hasn’t said, ‘I don’t believe this.’ She is letting the lie live. She is OK with it. And unfortunately, those who are in leadership in that party are saying they’re OK with it also because they’re not doing anything,” Guttenberg said.

“Somebody has to take action on this today,” he added.

Guttenberg’s MSNBC interview comes slightly more than two weeks before the three-year anniversary of the mass shooting that left 17 students and staff members, including his 14-year-old daughter Jaime, dead.

Greene is facing growing criticism as reports about her past remarks doubting school shootings, backing the QAnon conspiracy and expressing support for using violence against Democrats on Facebook, which CNN’s KFile reported this week.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) slammed GOP leadership for assigning Greene to serve on the House Committee on Education and Labor despite her claims about school shootings, saying “the enemy is within” the House.

“It is absolutely appalling, and I think that the focus has to be on the Republican leadership of this House of Representatives for the disregard that they have for the death of those children,” Pelosi told reporters Thursday.

Other lawmakers have denounced the Georgia Republican, with Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-Calif.) announcing on Wednesday that he will introduce a resolution to expel her from Congress, and Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) saying she is “not a Republican.”
