Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (R-Ga.) said that she plans to meet with former President Trump at his estate in Florida “soon” and that the two have been talking to each other more frequently.
In an interview with conservative outlet One America News (OAN) released on Monday, Greene said the former president has been “doing really well” since his exit from the White House late last month.
“I’m excited to go visit him soon and continue to give him a call and talk to him frequently. Great news is, he supports me 100 percent, and I’ve always supported him,” she said, according to Politico.
“President Trump is always here for the people, and he’s not going anywhere. So I look forward to, to joining him and what his future plans may be,” she added.
Greene has been touting her relationship with the former president in recent days as she faces criticism from lawmakers following the emergence of past comments she made expressing support for violence against top Democrats.
Over the weekend, the first-year congresswoman tweeted that she had recently had a “great call” with Trump, whom she referred to as her “all time favorite POTUS.” She also said in the tweet that she was “grateful for his support and more importantly the people of this country are absolutely 100% loyal to him because he is 100% loyal to the people and America First.”
Greene has been facing heat from Democratic lawmakers and members of her own party over remarks she made on social media in the past signaling support for comments that called for the deaths of prominent Democrats.
The Georgia Republican also came under scrutiny before her election to Congress late last year after her past bigoted remarks and support for the far-right QAnon conspiracy theory garnered media attention during her campaign.
In her interview on Monday, Greene took aim at the news media in light of the growing criticism she’s drawn over her past comments.
“You’re seeing the media — I call them the blood-thirsty media — play the same playbook against me that they played against President Trump for four years, and they’ve perfected it and now they’re carrying on,” she said.
She also took aim at Rep. Cori Bush (D) in the interview after the Missouri congresswoman said she would be moving her office away from Greene’s for her safety. At the time, Bush accused Greene’s staff of berating her in a hallway after she told Greene to wear a mask.
In her interview with OAN on Monday, Greene called Bush a “radical BLM Marxist, BLM activist” and accused her of lying.
“I’ve never talked to her outside of that exchange, never seen her in the hallway. But she made up a whole lie just so she could get a better office,” Greene claimed.
