Greene asserts Democrats ‘helping’ her with push to drop her from committees

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) on Wednesday dismissed Democrats pushing for her to lose her committee seats while also criticizing House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.).

“They don’t even realize they’re helping me. I’m pretty amazed at how dumb they are,” Greene told the Washington Examiner, referring to those pushing for her removal.

Democrats and some Republicans are advocating for Greene to be removed from the Education and Budget committees in the House.

They point to past comments from Greene that include supporting Facebook posts calling for violence against Democrats and conspiracy theories about the Parkland and Sandy Hook shootings.

The House is slated to vote Thursday on whether to remove Greene from the committees.

Greene said she expects to lose her committee assignments. She asserted the move helps free her up to focus on other issues, such as campaigning for Republicans in 2022 House races.

“Oh no, it doesn’t hurt me at all. I think it’s going to give me more time on my hands, I think, which is fantastic because then I can gain more support, I can help really get Republicans running in these primaries and elections in 2022,” she told the Examiner.

Greene has faced backlash over numerous comments she made before entering office, with McCarthy on Wednesday issuing a statement further condemning her incendiary remarks, though he did not announce any disciplinary actions against the first-year lawmaker.

In her interview with the Examiner, Greene criticized the GOP leader, comparing him to Democrats.

“I think Republicans need to get back to who they are, and they need to stop talking and actually doing,” she said. “And Kevin McCarthy and all these leaders, the leadership, and everyone is proving that they are all talk and not about action, and they’re just all about doing business as usual in Washington. And so, what’s the difference between them and the Democrats? There isn’t a difference.”

Despite many calling for her removal, there are still some Republicans who back the controversial figure. In the magazine interview, Greene elaborated on a tweet she sent over the weekend saying she was on a call with former President Trump.

“Oh yeah, he’s supportive, of course he’s supportive, he’s sick and tired of weak Republicans that won’t fight. That’s what he said,” Greene said. “I can help President Trump, whenever he comes out with his plan, which I’m excited to do.”
