Kinzinger backs Cheney on criticism of Republican Party

Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R) on Tuesday showed full support for Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) in her recent criticism of the GOP.

Kinzinger responded to a statement from Cheney’s communications director Jeremy Alder about the current state of the GOP, in which Alder said that the party will still continue to push their lies of regarding the 2020 election. Alder also said the party is attempting to whitewash what happened during the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol, but “Liz will not do that.”

“100 percent. This IS THE ISSUE,” Kinzinger wrote in his post.

This comes as former Texas House candidate Michael Wood made an appearance on CNN’s “New Day,” telling host John Berman that the GOP is “not living up to this moment” in reference to the party’s alliance to former President Trump. He also showed support for Kinzinger, Cheney and Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah), who also frequently comes under fire for breaking from the rest of his party.

Kinzinger’s support also comes as top allies of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) are vowing to oust Cheney, the No. 3 Republican, from her seat after her criticism of the former president.

Cheney is one of the 10 Republicans who voted to impeach Trump after the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol, where pro-Trump supporters stormed the building.
