Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) in an interview early Sunday dismissed comments from Donald Trump Jr. about a meeting with a Russian lawyer offering damaging information about Hillary Clinton, saying, “We can’t accept anything Don Jr. says.”
Schiff, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, told ABC’s “This Week” that “we have to rely on Don Jr.’s representation of what happened in that meeting” to believe President Trump’s assertion that he had no knowledge it.
“And we’ve already seen we can’t rely on that,” Schiff added.
{mosads}“We can’t accept anything Don Jr. says, and of course, and we can’t accept much the president says about this either, because he has a similar record of not being forthcoming when it comes to Russia,” Schiff added.
The congressman pointed out that Trump announced during a campaign speech at the time of the meeting in June 2016 that he would give out information on Clinton, but that the announcement was later cancelled.
“That would corroborate that Don Jr. didn’t get the information he was hoping for,” Schiff said, “but of course it contradicts the idea that he was unaware.”
