MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough received a pet rabbit from his co-host and fiancée, Mika Brzezinski, and the two decided to name it Donald Fluffy Trump.
A New York magazine profile of the cable news hosts, who have famously feuded with President Trump, recounts the story of Scarborough’s birthday gift, which ultimately ended up living with Brzezinski because it kept scratching her “Morning Joe” co-host.
{mosads}The anecdote kicks off a long profile — titled “Donald Trump is not invited to the — of the two anchors and their complicated past with Trump.
While Scarborough, a former Republican congressman, says he used to exchange phone calls with Trump, something changed once he was elected.
“Him getting elected has just amplified all of his insecurities,” Scarborough said. He feels Trump has lost his sense of self-awareness, using as an example an incident in the first weeks of the new administration.
Shortly after his first week in office, the two were invited to the White House. The visit was “disturbing,” Brzezinski said, because Trump was “way too into” the fact he’d been elected.
That was followed by a phone call in which Trump reportedly raised his voice at Scarborough for criticizing his first week in office.
“He said, ‘I invited you over to lunch and you’re so rude!,’ ” Scarborough told the magazine.
