CNN’s Stelter calls Trump’s comments on Harvey media coverage ‘wrong and petty’

CNN host Brian Stelter on Sunday took aim at President Trump over a swipe he made at the media in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, calling the president’s criticism “wrong and petty.”

Trump made the comments over the weekend while visiting communities in Texas that have been ravaged by flooding.

The president praised the Coast Guard for having “saved 11,000 people” before turning his attention to the press.

“Think of it, almost 11,000 people by going into winds that the media would not go into,” Trump said, before gesturing to reporters.

Stelter slammed the comment during his show “Reliable Sources,” calling it “just wrong and petty.”

“Obviously we saw many members of the media out with the Coast Guard, out with other rescuers,” he said, before pointing to CNN correspondent Anderson Cooper as an example.

Stelter noted that there have been “many heroic stories to tell,” as well as cases of journalists jumping in “to rescue those in harm’s way.”

Earlier on Sunday, a Houston news executive blasted Trump for his criticism.

“I’ve had with the insults,” Bill Bishop, the managing editor of KHOU-TV in Houston, tweeted on Sunday.

“Let’s see him stand in E. coli water reporting for hours like the media does.”
