Jeff Glor has been named the new anchor of “CBS Evening News,” the network announced on Wednesday.
The 42-year-old Glor has been a lead anchor on CBSN, the network’s 24/7 streaming news service, “and will maintain his presence on the digital streaming channel,” CBS said in its announcement.
“In his more than 10 years at CBS News, Jeff has earned the trust of viewers and his colleagues. He represents the best journalistic values and traditions that will carry the Evening News into a digital future,” CBS News President David Rhodes said.

Glor takes over the position previously held by Scott Pelley, who served as “CBS Evening News” anchor until mid-June. Pelley was removed from those duties after years of finishing third in the evening news race against NBC and ABC.
CBS senior national correspondent Anthony Mason has filled in as interim anchor since that time while the network decided on a permanent replacement.
Mason will continue in his role as the network’s senior national correspondent and co-host of “CBS This Morning: Saturday,” the network announced Wednesday.
Glor joined CBS News in 2007 as a correspondent. Since that time he has also served as anchor of the weekend editions of “CBS Evening News” starting in 2009.
Glor becomes the seventh solo anchor of “CBS Evening News,” which debuted in 1948. Douglas Edwards, Walter Cronkite, Dan Rather, Bob Schieffer, Katie Couric and Pelley were the others. Connie Chung co-anchored with Rather from 1993-1995.
