Colbert: Trump kept calling China Thailand because ‘it’s where they make his ties’
Stephen Colbert joked about President Trump’s visit this week to China, saying the president kept calling the country “Thailand.”
“He arrived today in China, although he kept calling it Thailand, ’cause it’s where they make his ties,” Colbert said during his late-night show.
Colbert also mocked Trump for the speech he gave earlier this week in South Korea, in which he touted his New Jersey golf club.

“A lot of presidents use foreign trips to hawk their personal products,” Colbert joked. “Remember, when Nixon went to China, he was there just to promote Dick Nixon’s salad fixins.”
Addressing the National Assembly in Seoul on Wednesday, Trump named some of the nation’s cultural accomplishments, including Park Sung-hyun’s victory at this year’s U.S. Women’s Open.
Trump on Thursday in China blamed past administrations instead of Beijing for “unfair” trade practices.
He said during the event in Beijing that he does not place blame on China for what he described as “one-sided and unfair” trade practices, noting he gives “China great credit.”
“I don’t blame China,” he said. “After all, who can blame a country for being able to take advantage of another country for the benefit of its citizens? I give China great credit.”
