A new Quinnipiac poll released Tuesday shows American voters disapprove of media coverage of President Trump by a 20-point margin, but also trust the media to tell the truth about important issues more than the president by the same margin.
The poll shows 58 percent of those surveyed disapprove of the way the media covers Trump, while 38 percent of those polled said they approve.
However, 54 percent said the trust the media to tell the truth about important issues more than Trump, while 34 percent said they trusted the president more.

The poll also found that 53 percent of those surveyed think the media focuses too much on negative stories about the president and that 39 percent believe the press “makes up negative stories about him,” compared to 57 percent who do not think that’s the case.
The poll comes on the heels of a Politico/Morning Consult October poll that found almost half of voters, 46 percent, believe the media “fabricates news stories about President Donald Trump and his administration.” Thirty-seven percent in that poll said they didn’t think the media made up stories about the president or his administration.
The Quinnipiac poll was conducted from Nov 7-13 and surveyed 1,577 voters across the country reached via cellphone or landline. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
