A Wednesday report alleges Matt Lauer sexually assaulted a female NBC staffer during the network’s coverage of the Sochi Olympics in 2014, according to sources who spoke to the New York Post.
The allegations comes as Lauer’s firing was announced on NBC’s “Today” on Wednesday morning.
Earlier on Wednesday, NBC News Chairman Andy Lack sent a memo to staffers explaining the decision to fire Lauer.

“Our highest priority is to create a workplace environment where everyone feels safe and protected, and to ensure that any actions that run counter to our core values are met with consequences, no matter who the offender,” the statement says.
“We are deeply saddened by this turn of events. But we will face it together as a news organization — and do it in as transparent a manner as we can.”
Lauer, 59, was the highest-paid host in broadcast news, earning a reported $28 million per year.
