MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough on Wednesday labeled tweets from President Trump, including one that appeared to be a call for an investigation into a dead staffer found in the former GOP congressman’s office in 2001, as “bizarre.”
The “Morning Joe” host declared the president is “not well.”
“Looks like I picked a good day to stop responding to Trump’s bizarre tweets,” Scarborough wrote to his 1.96 million followers.
“He is not well,” he added.
In a tweet calling for Scarborough and MSNBC president Phil Griffin to be terminated in the wake of “Today” host Matt Lauer’s firing over a sexual misconduct allegation, the president mentioned an “‘unsolved mystery’ that took place in Florida years ago.”
The president was referring to Lori Klausutis, a 28-year-old office staffer who worked for Scarborough while he was in Congress and was found dead in his district office in July 2001.
A local medical examiner ruled the death an accident, saying Klausutis had collapsed and hit her head on the side of a desk. She had an undiagnosed heart condition, according to the medical examiner, and the head trauma caused a fatal blood clot.
Klausutis had worked for Scarborough since May 1999, according to Scarborough’s press secretary at the time.
Trump and Scarborough once had a good relationship while the real estate mogul was running for the White House, with Trump often appearing on “Morning Joe” for what were called friendly interviews by critics.
The relationship turned sour quickly after Trump clinched the GOP presidential nomination. He has not appeared on the morning show or MSNBC as a whole since May 2016.
