Fox News host: This wasn’t a referendum on Trump, but on Harvey Weinstein

A Fox News host on Wednesday said she believes Democrat Doug Jones’s win in the Alabama Senate race was not a referendum on President Trump.

“When Jones caught a break, when all these allegations came out against Judge Moore,” Ainsley Earhardt said on “Fox & Friends,” referring to Republican candidate Roy Moore.

“The environment was really bad … It was hard for women especially to go to the polls and vote for him even though those allegations were just allegations and even though it happened so long ago,” she added. 

“This was not a referendum on Trump. I feel like it was a referendum on Harvey Weinstein.”

{mosads}Her comments come after Democrat Doug Jones on Tuesday defeated Moore in the Alabama Senate race.

Jones is the first member of his party to win a Senate seat in the state since 1992.

Moore had been accused by multiple women of sexual misconduct. A woman accused Moore of initiating a sexual encounter with her when she was 14 and he was 32. Other women have also alleged Moore had inappropriate contact with them when they were teenagers.

Moore has repeatedly denied the allegations. President Trump earlier this month endorsed Moore despite the allegations against him, and had tweeted about the race multiple times in recent days.

Earlier this year, multiple women accused Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein of sexual misconduct, leading to his dismissal from his own company.

Since then, a growing number of women have come forward to allege sexual misconduct by multiple public figures, including those in Hollywood, the media and politics.
