Media criticizes Trump for retweet portraying CNN as blood on his shoe

Journalists on Sunday criticized President Trump for retweeting a photo of what appears to be the CNN logo in a splatter of blood on the bottom of the president’s shoe. The caption on the photo says, “Winning.”

Journalists from multiple outlets criticized the image, which was originally tweeted from the username oregon4TRUMP. Several reporters noted Trump sent the tweet on Christmas Eve.

“CNN-labeled blood on the sole of his shoe. Retweeted by the President of the United States on Christmas Eve,” CNN anchor Jake Tapper tweeted.

ABC’s chief political analyst Matthew Dowd asked evangelical Christian supporters of the president if they approved of the tweet on the eve of the holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.

Journalists from other outlets, including The Hill, also spoke out against the retweet.

The Hill has reached out to CNN for comment.

This is not the first time the president has retweeted a seemingly violent tweet against the cable network.

Trump retweeted an image in August showing a train hitting the network’s logo and in July tweeted a modified video of him taking down a fighter with the CNN logo superimposed on his face.

The president and the network have had a rocky relationship dating back to the campaign.

Trump has dubbed the network as “fake news,” while CNN has reacted with a “facts first” advertising campaign.
