CBS News fires senior political director over ‘accounts of inappropriate behavior’

CBS News announced on Thursday morning it has fired senior political director Steve Chaggaris for what the network is characterizing as “inappropriate behavior.”

“In the last two weeks, accounts of inappropriate behavior by Steve Chaggaris were brought to our attention and were immediately investigated,” CBS News said in a statement.

“As a result, CBS News has severed ties with Mr. Chaggaris for violating company policy, effective immediately.”

The Hill has reached out Chaggaris for comment.

His Twitter account has been deleted.

The network did not name a replacement on an interim or permanent basis for the 45-year-old Chaggaris, who was appointed to the position of senior political editor in March 2017.

Chaggaris began working for CBS in 1999 as an associate producer for the network’s political unit.

The decision comes more than six weeks after “CBS This Morning” co-host Charlie Rose was fired after multiple women accused the veteran newsman of making unwanted sexual advances.
