Michael Wolff, the author of a new book about the Trump White House, said in a new interview that he and the president would talk as if they were “friends” while he was working on the book.

“Well, I think he probably had no idea he was speaking to me for this book,” Wolff told “CBS This Morning,” referencing the president.

“When I would meet the president in the White House, we would chat as though we were friends.”

Wolff’s book, “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House,” has roiled Washington since excerpts first began leaking last week just prior to the book’s release.

Trump has denounced the book and Wolff, calling him a “loser” who “made up stories to sell” the account.

Wolff has pushed back on the administration’s denials, telling CBS that “everything in the book is true.”

Administration officials on Sunday were forced to play defense for their boss over the book and its shocking revelations, which include quotes from former White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon calling Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting with a Russian lawyer “treasonous” and unpatriotic.”
