President Trump found “Saturday Night Live” star Kate McKinnon’s impression of Attorney General Jeff Sessions “insulting,” according to a new report.
Trump advisers told The Washington Post that Trump has been turned off by the way Sessions is portrayed on “SNL.”
A senior White House official told the Post that Trump thinks the impression is “insulting.”
McKinnon has impersonated Sessions on “SNL” over the last year.
In November the show mocked the attorney general for repeatedly saying “I do not recall” during his testimony before the House Judiciary Committee, with McKinnon leading the audience in a “I do not recall” call and response.
Sessions was an early Trump supporter, but the president’s relationship with Sessions has reportedly been strained over the attorney general’s decision last year to recuse himself from the Russia probe, a move that helped set the stage for the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller.
According to the Post, Sessions has told his allies that he hopes media coverage of recent moves by the Justice Department will impress Trump.
He has reportedly requested that White House officials ensure Trump is aware of Sessions’s moves and has made it a priority for the Justice Department to investigate subjects the president has discussed publicly.
Trump has in the past reportedly taken issue with Melissa McCarthy’s impression of former White House press secretary Sean Spicer. Politico reported last year that Trump was upset by the fact that Spicer was played by a woman.
Trump has also frequently railed against the show on Twitter.
