Piers Morgan rips US health care system as a ‘sick joke’

British commentator Piers Morgan ripped the U.S. health care system Monday, responding to President Trump’s claim that Britain’s National Health Service was “going broke and not working.”

“Wrong, Mr President. Our NHS is a wonderful, albeit imperfect, health system – and the envy of the world,” Morgan tweeted.

“By comparison, the US healthcare system is a sick joke & the envy of no-one.”

The tweet comes after Trump on Monday said “no thanks” to any push from Democrats for a “universal” health care system in the U.S.

“The Democrats are pushing for Universal HealthCare while thousands of people are marching in the UK because their U system is going broke and not working,” the president wrote on Twitter.

“Dems want to greatly raise taxes for really bad and non-personal medical care. No thanks!”

Thousands of people marched in London over the weekend to protest health service budget cuts and restraints, according to reports.

Trump’s tweet Monday came after Nigel Farage, the former leader of a far-right British party, discussed the march on “Fox & Friends” — which Trump is known to watch.

Republicans failed last year to repeal and replace ObamaCare, a key agenda item for Trump. The repeal of ObamaCare’s individual mandate was included in the GOP tax overhaul passed late last year.

Morgan interviewed Trump in late January, marking Trump’s first international TV interview since he assumed office.
