NY Daily News labels Trump ‘Day Traitor’ for accusing Dems of treason as stock market tanks
One of President Trump’s hometown newspapers on Tuesday labeled him a “Day Traitor” after he accused Democrats who declined to clap during his State of the Union address of being “treasonous.”
The New York Daily News’s front-page headline was a reference to the record losses that roiled the stock market on Monday, when the Dow Jones industrial average saw its largest single-day loss in points in its history.
While the stock market tanked, Trump was worried about applause.

The play on words comes from the stock market trading technique of “day trading,” or buying and selling stocks and bonds on the same day.
The headline came a day after Trump lashed out during a speech in Cincinnati, suggesting that Democrats who did not clap for his State of the Union address may have committed treason.
“Can we call that treason?” he said. “Why not? I mean, they certainly didn’t seem to love our country very much.”
At the same time, the stock market tumbled, with the Dow falling 1,175 points.
The plunge was driven primarily by concerns about inflation, as well as the possibility of rising interest rates. But it still provided ammunition for critics of Trump, who has routinely taken responsibility for gains in the stock market since his election.
