A Fox News host on Monday fact-checked a White House spokesman on air after he claimed President Trump had been clear that all forms of abuse against women are “horrible and disgusting.”

During an exchange on “Fox & Friends,” host Brian Kilmeade asked deputy White House press secretary Hogan Gidley why Trump won’t say publicly he is “outraged” about the domestic abuse allegations against former aide Rob Porter.

“Well, I don’t know if he is going to say that publicly or not. And I have not spoken with the president about this, but I can say, you know, we lean on a process here at the White House and quite frankly, as soon as we found out about this on Tuesday, by Wednesday Rob Porter was gone,” he said during the interview.

“The president has been very clear that all forms of abuse, all forms of battery against women, are horrible and disgusting.”

Kilmeade interjected: “But he hasn’t said that.”

Gidley went on to defend Trump, saying that the president has made comments condemning abuse multiple times in the past.

“You haven’t talked to him today,” Gidley said.

“I know for a fact I have talked to the president about issues surrounding this type of behavior, and he finds it disgusting.”

His comments come after Trump last week praised Porter after he resigned following allegations from his two ex-wives of domestic abuse.

Trump on Friday said he hopes Porter has a great career ahead of him and that he did good work during his time in the White House. In his comments last week, Trump made no mention of the women specifically and offered no general condemnation of domestic violence.

On Saturday, Trump said on Twitter that lives are being destroyed by “a mere allegation” and questioned whether there was “such a thing any longer as Due Process.”
