Comey considering movie, TV deals: report

Former FBI Director James Comey is reportedly fielding movie and television adaptation offers for his new memoir, a book that tops several sales charts one month ahead of its scheduled release, according to a Tuesday report.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Comey’s memoir, “A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership,” received pitches when the book’s agents at the Washington, D.C.-based Javelin agency visited Los Angeles last week.

“A film or TV deal wasn’t something Comey even thought about until a flood of people in Hollywood called and expressed interest after the book was announced in early August. Comey is said to be unsure if he’ll sell the option in the end,” reads one part of the report.

Comey did not accompany agents Matt Latimer and Keith Urbahn during the trip to meet with agents, production companies and screenwriters last week.

Extra attention has been heaped on the memoir after President Trump attacked Comey and the FBI publicly since former Deputy Director Andrew McCabe’s firing two days before qualifying for full pension benefits.

The president accused Comey of lying under oath during a series of tweets over the weekend that included calling McCabe firing “a great day for democracy.”

“Andrew McCabe FIRED, a great day for the hard working men and women of the FBI – A great day for Democracy. Sanctimonious James Comey was his boss and made McCabe look like a choirboy. He knew all about the lies and corruption going on at the highest levels of the FBI!” Trump wrote to his more than 49 million followers.

“Wow, watch Comey lie under oath to Senator [Chuck Grassley] when asked ‘have you ever been an anonymous source…or known someone else to be an anonymous source…?’ He said strongly ‘never, no.’ He lied as shown clearly on @foxandfriends,” Trump also wrote a day later on Mar. 18.

Comey’s memoir is set to be released April 17.
