Time cover shows Trump in storm after FBI raids lawyer’s office
The cover for Time magazine’s latest issue shows President Trump in a storm after the FBI raided the office of Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen.
The cover shows Trump sitting in a chair with waves of water and papers flying around the room.
The cover has the word: “Stormy.”
It links to an article titled, “Donald Trump Relied on Michael Cohen to Weather the Storm. Now The President Is On His Own.”
The cover comes after the FBI earlier this week raided Cohen’s office, seizing emails, documents and records, some of them related to his payment to adult-film star Stormy Daniels.
Cohen’s lawyer, Stephen Ryan, said in a statement that federal prosecutors in New York City obtained a search warrant after receiving a referral “in part” from special counsel Robert Mueller.
Cohen is being investigated for possible bank fraud and campaign finance violations, The Washington Post reported.
Trump lashed out at the FBI following the raid, calling it a “disgrace” and a “pure and simple witch hunt.”
Trump also said that “many people” have said he should fire Mueller, who is investigating Russian election interference and possible ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.
Trump’s fiery comments raised speculation that the FBI raid on Cohen’s office could lead Trump to fire Mueller, a step lawmakers in both parties have repeatedly warned would lead to a constitutional crisis.
A CNN report earlier this week said Trump is considering firing Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, the No. 2 Justice Department official who reportedly personally approved the FBI raid.
Under Justice Department regulations, Rosenstein is the only person with the power to fire Mueller, if he has cause to do so. White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said on Tuesday that the president believes he has the power to dismiss Mueller as well.
