Michael Moore praises ‘truth-teller’ Samantha Bee, calls Ivanka Trump insult ‘brilliant’

Activist and filmmaker Michael Moore praised comedian Samantha Bee as a “truth-teller” on Thursday following her comments about Ivanka Trump that included the phrase “feckless c—,” adding that he thought Bee’s insult was a “brilliant rant.”

Moore’s commentary came at almost the same time Bee issued an apology for the comments about the president’s daughter and senior advisor.

“Ha! The White House today, still not denouncing Roseanne’s racism, tries to confuse the issue by going after Samantha Bee’s brilliant rant against Ivanka last night,” wrote Moore on Twitter while sharing a YouTube link to Bee’s comment before adding, “SAM BEE: TRUTH-TELLER!”

{mosads}Bee stirred major controversy on Wednesday night after attacking Ivanka Trump for sharing a photo of an embrace with her 2-year-old son over the weekend.

“You know, Ivanka, that’s a beautiful photo of you and your child, but let me just say one mother to another: Do something about your dad’s immigration practices, you feckless c—,” said Bee in comments that appeared to be scripted.

The controversy over Bee’s comments follows one centered around ABC sitcom star Roseanne Barr, who sent a racist tweet that resulted in ABC cancelling her show. Barr’s show had been previously complimented by President Trump. White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders avoided commenting directly on the Barr controversy on Tuesday.

“That’s not what the president’s looking at,” she said. “We have a lot bigger things going on in the country right now.”

Sanders condemned Bee’s remark on Thursday, calling on TBS to apologize.

“The language used by Samantha Bee last night is vile and vicious,” she said in a statement. “[Bee’s] disgusting comments and show are not fit for broadcast, and executives at Time Warner and TBS must demonstrate that such explicit profanity about female members of his administration will not be condoned on its network.”

Bee took to Twitter Thursday afternoon minutes before Moore offered his praise to apologize for the comment made on her TBS program.

“I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night,” the “Full Frontal” host said in a statement provided to ITK. “It was inappropriate and inexcusable,” Bee wrote. “I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it.”

TBS has also since apologized.

“Samantha Bee has taken the right action in apologizing for the vile and inappropriate language she used about Ivanka Trump last night. Those words should not have been aired. It was our mistake too, and we regret it,” the network said in a statement.
