Fox’s Kennedy chides Chaffetz on child migrants: ‘I’m sure these mini rapists all have bombs strapped to their chests’
Fox News host Kennedy slammed former GOP congressman and current Fox News contributor Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) on Monday for arguing that child migrants need to be vetted, saying she’s sure “these mini rapists all have bombs strapped to their chests.”
“What do we do with the children who are already here?” “Outnumbered” co-host Harris Faulkner asked Chaffetz, who was serving as the program’s male guest host.
“First of all, you’ve got to vet them,” the former Utah lawmaker said.
“How do you vet a child?” Faulkner asked incredulously.
“Because you’ve got to make sure that the person coming across … ” Chaffetz began to explain before Kennedy, whose full name is Lisa Kennedy Montgomery, jumped in.
“Come on, man,” she said. “I’m sure these mini rapists all have bombs strapped to their chests.”
“We’re demonizing the wrong people, it’s become so illogical,” Kennedy added.
“No! You are so naive, I can’t believe it,” Chaffetz shot back. “There is so much human trafficking.”
“I am far from naive when it comes to this, but I am also not an alarmist,” Kennedy said. “You were in Congress for so long, you didn’t fix the system either. Democrats can’t do it. Republicans can’t do it.”
The exchange comes as the separation of migrant children from their families at the southern border dominates political media coverage, particularly on cable news.
A new Quinnipiac University poll shows respondents oppose a Trump administration policy that has resulted in the separations by a 66 to 27 percentage point margin.
