Geraldo Rivera: Melania’s chief of staff should be fired over ‘I really don’t care’ jacket
Fox News’s Geraldo Rivera on Friday called for first lady Melania Trump’s chief of staff to be fired for letting the first lady wear a jacket with the words “I really don’t care” across the back to the southern border.
Rivera said on “Fox & Friends” that Lindsay Reynolds, a staffer for former President George W. Bush, made a “rookie mistake” and should lose her job over Melania’s controversial jacket choice.
“Whoever the chief of staff for the first lady [is] should be fired for allowing her to wear that jacket to the border,” Rivera said.

The first lady en route to visit with migrant children separated from their parents at a Texas shelter on Thursday wore a jacket with the words “I really don’t care. Do U?” on the back.
Rivera said her “noble gesture” of visiting the kids was overshadowed by her wardrobe choice.
“And she wore a coat that gave critics of the president something else to talk about to deflect the fact that she had gone to see with her own eyes this tragic situation,” Rivera said.
After she was photographed in the jacket boarding her flight to Texas, Melania donned the same green Zara jacket to return to the White House.
Rivera said it was a “staff error” that no one on her staff intervened.
“A rookie mistake,” he added.
The Hill has reached out to the first lady’s office for comment.
The first lady’s communications director, Stephanie Grisham, on Thursday said that the jacket had “no hidden message.”
“After today’s important visit to Texas, I hope the media isn’t going to choose to focus on her wardrobe,” Grisham said in a statement. “(Much like her high heels last year).”
Grisham was referring to the criticism Melania Trump received last year when she wore high heels to board the plane before her visit to Texas after it was ravaged by Hurricane Harvey.
President Trump, however, contradicted Grisham just hours later on Twitter and said his wife’s eye-catching jacket was a dig at the “Fake News Media.”
“Melania has learned how dishonest they are, and she truly no longer cares!” the president wrote.
“I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?” written on the back of Melania’s jacket, refers to the Fake News Media. Melania has learned how dishonest they are, and she truly no longer cares!

CNN analyst Kirsten Powers pointed out on Thursday that the first lady is fashionable and spends time picking out her outfits.
Powers argued that the jacket’s message was intentional.
“She’s officially the Marie Antoinette of this administration,” Powers said. “It should just say ‘let them eat cake,’ that they literally just don’t care about what’s happening there.”
