Maher mocks QAnon: ‘I am Q’
HBO host Bill Maher mocked believers of the “QAnon” theory on his show Friday night, jokingly saying that he is the secretive figure known as “Q” spreading conspiracies online.
Maher said Friday on “Real Time” that President Trump’s supporters must cease believing in the conspiracy theory, which claims in part that Trump is battling “the deep state,” if they want to be taken seriously.
{mosads}”In the ‘Q’ world [Trump is] a superhero, whose whole life has been a cover-up so he can be in place to strike back against the pedophile rings,” Maher said, to laughs. “And then it starts to get weird.”
“Help me help you,” he added. “Like it or not, we are family. And you are like the sick, alcoholic brother who has lost his f—ing mind.”
Maher continued to mock the theory for several minutes before turning to the camera and revealing: “Which is why it is true. I am ‘Q.’ I am.”
“There’s no non-evidence that I’m not,” he added, mocking a Trump supporter who had made a similar remark on CNN.
Maher, wearing a black hoodie and holding a laptop, and speaking with a voice modulator, repeated: “I am ‘Q.’ ”
The conspiracy theory jumped from internet forums to a national platform earlier this month after supporters of the theory appeared on prime-time news programs at two Trump rallies. Some attendees wore shirts with Q logos and others held up signs promoting the theory.
