Suspicious package sent to CNN was addressed to John Brennan: report

The suspicious package mailed to CNN’s offices in New York City was addressed to former CIA Director John Brennan, CNN reports.

The package was intercepted Wednesday, causing the Time Warner Building, where CNN’s offices are located, to be evacuated.

New York City police said at this time they could not confirm the report to The Hill.

ABC News later posted a photo it had obtained of the device, bearing Brennan’s name, misspelled.

Police arrived at the scene wearing blast suits and with a bomb containment chamber, CNN reported.

Authorities say the package bears some similarity to the explosive devices mailed to former President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

A contributor to MSNBC and NBC News, and a frequent guest on CNN, Brennan has been a passionate critic of the Trump administration.

He has accused President Trump of colluding with Russia during his 2016 presidential race and has said the president’s behavior at a press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin was “nothing short of treason.”

The president has been a vocal critic of Brennan as well and revoked his security clearance earlier this year.

“Mr. Brennan’s lying and recent conduct characterized by increasingly frenzied commentary is wholly inconsistent with access to the nation’s most closely held secrets and facilities, the very aim of our adversaries, which is to sow division and chaos,” Trump said in the statement read by White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

The White House has denied that the move was a result of Brennan’s criticism of the administration.
