Ben Shapiro jabs Sanders over Acosta action: ‘No need to state something happened that didn’t’
Conservative writer Ben Shapiro on Thursday criticized White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders after she suspended press credentials for CNN’s Jim Acosta.
Sanders says she took the punitive measure against CNN’s chief White House correspondent for “placing his hands” on an intern who tried to take the microphone from him during a press conference with President Trump on Wednesday.
“This is not what happened,” Shapiro replied to a tweet from Sanders, in which she said that Acosta was banned for “placing his hands on a young woman just trying to do her job as a White House intern.”
“You could have banned him simply for refusing to abide by any of the normal rules of the press room,” Shapiro wrote. “No need to state something happened that didn’t.”

Trump grew frustrated with Acosta’s line of questioning about a migrant caravan and cut him off at Wednesday’s press conference.
“Honestly, I think you should let me run the country,” Trump snapped. “You run CNN, and if you did it well, your ratings would be much better.”
Acosta began to ask another question and Trump said, “OK, that’s enough. That’s enough.”
Acosta held on to the microphone as a female intern tried to take it from him, and he appeared to come in contact with her arm in the process.
“Pardon me, ma’am,” he said while asking the president a question about the Russia investigation.
“CNN should be ashamed of themselves, having you working for them,” Trump said after Acosta gave up the microphone. “You are a rude, terrible person.”
“You’re a very rude person. The way you treat Sarah Huckabee is horrible,” Trump said. “And the way you treat other people is horrible. You shouldn’t treat other people that way.”
