Boehner working on memoir: report

Former Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) is working on a memoir that will reflect on his more than two decades in Washington, D.C., Politico reported Monday.

The news outlet reported that Boehner’s book will portray him as a lawmaker from a bygone era when negotiations took place in person and not through the media or social media, and as someone who remained true to themselves throughout their political career.

“I’ve never really been interested in doing your typical political-memoir kind of book. And this won’t be that kind of book,” Boehner told Politico in a statement. “This is going to be a book people might want to actually read, no matter where they’re coming from politically, or where they’re coming from in life.”{mosads}

The tentative title of the book is “Notes From a Smoke-Filled Room,” Politico reported. It’s scheduled to be published in spring 2020, when the next presidential campaign is likely to be kicking into gear.

Boehner served in Congress from 1991 until 2015, and as Speaker from 2011 to 2015. He was forced out as Speaker by a movement from his party’s most conservative members.

Since leaving Congress, Boehner has maintained a relatively low profile and has offered few comments on the Trump White House. The former lawmaker was the subject of a wide-ranging Politico profile in which he recounted his time in office and chided some former colleagues, specifically former Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio).
