Fox News senior political analyst Brit Hume and former CNN anchor Soledad O’Brien exchanged blows on Twitter after O’Brien argued that President Trump only visited troops in Iraq because he was shamed into the trip.
The jousting began on Wednesday after actress and activist Alyssa Milano posted a story from NBC News originally stating Trump was the first president since 2002 not to visit troops at Christmastime.
Hume then informed Milano that the report was inaccurate because Trump and the first lady had already been meeting with U.S. troops in Iraq after making a surprise visit there Wednesday.
“Shaming him [Trump] seems to work,” injected O’Brien, who currently is a correspondent for HBO’s “Real Sports.”
“Yes, Ma’am. Trump read this tweet when it was posted and time-traveled himself back to yesterday and flew to Iraq. Genius take,” Hume responded in a tweet that was “liked” nearly 24,000 times as of Thursday morning.
{mosads}”Sorry—let me spell it out more slowly so you can understand me: the President (according to cnn’s Barabar Starr) prepped for this trip several weeks ago,” O’Brien retorted in a tweet liked 860 times as of Thursday morning.
“The shaming seems to have worked,” she added. “I hope you’re having a nice holiday. Try not to be such an a**hole in 2019.”
Trump returned to the White House early Thursday after also visiting troops in Germany.
“Just returned from visiting our troops in Iraq and Germany. One thing is certain, we have incredible people representing our Country – people that know how to win!” he tweeted to his more than 56 million followers on Thursday morning.
