Ann Coulter blasts Trump speech: ‘Lamest, sappiest’ State of the Union ever

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter blasted President Trump’s State of the Union address in a series of tweets Tuesday night.

Coulter, who has been harshly critical of Trump in recent months over his lack of action on immigration, called the speech the “lamest, sappiest, most intentionally tear-jerking SOTU ever.”

“Please fire your speechwriter,” Coulter tweeted at Trump.

She took a jab at the president’s comments saying that the U.S. will never be a “socialist country,” tweeting that such a fate is inevitable if Trump doesn’t “build a wall & deport illegals.”

“Nice words though,” she added.

Coulter also noted that she was “too tired to watch his whole speech,” and referred to the remarks as “surprisingly Oprah-like.”

{mosads}Trump’s speech, while divisive within the House Chamber, had a number of touching moments, particularly around recognition of the president’s State of the Union guests.

Lawmakers in both parties gave standing ovations to the childhood cancer survivor and Holocaust survivor who were invitees of Trump and the first lady.

“So Trump is AGAINST childhood cancer, AIDS and the Holocaust,” Coulter tweeted. “Glad I tuned in to hear that.”

Trump announced a new goal during the speech: to eradicate AIDS within 10 years.

Coulter has dug into Trump a number of times in recent months, criticizing him for “folding” on his proposed border wall with Mexico by agreeing to a short-term spending deal to end the 35-day government shutdown without securing funding for the wall.

Trump shot back at Coulter’s criticism in an interview last week, saying, “I hear she’s become very hostile. Maybe I didn’t return her phone call or something.”
