CNN’s Santorum calls SOTU address ‘the worst delivered speech I’ve heard Donald Trump give’

Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) on Tuesday said that he thought President Trump’s State of the Union address was “probably the worst delivered speech I’ve heard Donald Trump give.”

While appearing on CNN with a reaction panel, Santorum, who often defends Trump on the network, said that the speech was “light on domestic policy” and “not a big speech.”

{mosads}“This was probably the worst delivered speech I’ve heard Donald Trump give,” Santorum, a CNN contributor, said. “He ran over his lines, he mixed up, he didn’t deliver his punchlines, he would deliver a line and go to the next issue, and I don’t think he even realized he was moving on to the next issue. … Someone didn’t do a good job of breaking his speech so he knew what to do. That was the problem.”

“In an hour and half, Donald Trump proposed eight domestic policies,” Santorum added. “Eight! And two of those eight were child cancer and AIDS. So this was not a big speech.”

The comments came following Trump’s address that polls show was generally well-received. A CBS poll taken after the speech showed 76 percent of viewers approving of what they heard from the president, including 72 percent who said they approved of his ideas for immigration.

A CNN poll that was taken after the address also showed high marks for the president, with 59 percent saying they thought the speech was “very positive.” Another 17 percent said they were somewhat positive about the speech, while 23 percent had negative feelings about it.

Trump overall approval rating stood at 41.2 percent going into the address in the RealClearPolitics average of polls.
