“Fox & Friends” weekend co-host Pete Hegseth on Sunday joked that he hasn’t washed his hands in the past 10 years.

“As I told you, my 2019 resolution is to say things on air that I say off air. I don’t think I’ve washed my hands for 10 years. Really, I don’t really wash my hands,” Hegseth said. His co-hosts laughed in response.

{mosads}Hegseth’s comments came as he and his co-hosts were discussing eating pizza that was a day old.

“Yesterday was National Pizza Day, which means it’s national pizza weekend, which means Pizza Hut lasts for a long time,” he said.

Hegseth later joked that because he can’t see germs, they are “not a real thing.”

“I inoculate myself. Germs are not a real thing. I can’t see them, therefore they’re not real,” he said.

“I can’t get sick,” Hegseth added. “These hands look pretty clean to me. … Sorry to gross you out on this Sunday morning.”

A Fox News spokesperson confirmed to The Hill that Hegseth was joking when he said he hasn’t washed his hands in 10 years.

Hegseth, responding to criticism online, also said in a tweet Sunday that it was “obvious” he was joking.
