CNN hires former DOJ spokesperson under Sessions as editor on 2020 campaign
CNN has hired the former spokesperson at the Justice Department under then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions as an editor covering the 2020 presidential campaign.
CNN’s hiring of Sarah Isgur was first reported by Politico and confirmed to The Hill by CNN.
{mosads}Isgur is set to join CNN next month as a political editor, coordinating campaign coverage of the 2020 election cycle.
Isgur did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill.
Isgur joined the Justice Department under Sessions in 2017 after serving as deputy campaign manager for former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina’s short-lived presidential campaign.
She joined Sessions’s staff before his confirmation hearing and stayed with him throughout his often tumultuous tenure.
Sessions frequently drew the ire of President Trump after the attorney general recused himself from overseeing special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.
Sessions’s recusal left oversight to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, whom Isgur also served as spokeswoman for.
Isgur previously worked for the Republican National Committee and on Sen. Mitt Romney’s (R-Utah) 2012 presidential campaign, according to Politico.
Isgur joins the cable news network that is the subject of frequent criticism from Trump, who often derides the media as “fake news” and the “enemy of the people.”
