Bill Maher tells Schiff to go on Fox News, ‘get in the bubble’
HBO host Bill Maher told House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) on Friday to “get in the bubble” and appear on Fox News more.
The California Democrat appeared on “Real Time with Bill Maher” this week after calling on his GOP colleagues to share their private concerns about President Trump publicly.
“No one who needs to hear this is hearing you. That’s the problem,” Maher said before asking if the network ever invites the lawmaker on its shows.{mosads}
“From time to time,” Schiff responded, adding that host Sean Hannity invites him to appear on his top Fox News show frequently.
“You should go. That’s who needs to hear your message,” Maher said. “I thought you weren’t invited … Please go.”
“You gotta get in the bubble, man,” he added.
Schiff said there are “credible journalists, some, on Fox News” and paused.
“Just trying to think of some,” he joked as the audience laughed.
The committee chairman conceded at the end of the conversation, saying that he would appear on the network for Maher.
Schiff has been one of Trump’s most vocal critics in Congress and opened a sweeping committee probe into the president’s alleged ties to Russia and his personal finances earlier this month.
In a Washington Post op-ed published Thursday, he criticized his Republican colleagues for not speaking out when Trump attacked the Justice Department.
“When he attacked the press as the enemy of the people, you again were silent. When he targeted the judiciary, labeling judges and decisions he didn’t like as illegitimate, we heard not a word. And now he comes for Congress, the first branch of government, seeking to strip it of its greatest power, that of the purse,” Schiff wrote.”
“Many of you have acknowledged your deep misgivings about the president in quiet conversations over the past two years. You have bemoaned his lack of decency, character and integrity. You have deplored his fundamental inability to tell the truth. But for reasons that are all too easy to comprehend, you have chosen to keep your misgivings and your rising alarm private.”
“That must end. The time for silent disagreement is over. You must speak out.”
