GOP rep: Anderson Cooper’s NYE shots show decline of CNN, America
Rep. Kat Cammack (R-Fla.) says that CNN anchor Anderson Cooper doing shots on live television during the network’s coverage of New Year’s Eve celebrations around the world is evidence of decline in America.
“Nothing is better under Joe Biden’s America,” the Republican lawmaker said during an appearance on the Fox Business Network. “Heck, even Anderson Cooper is doing shots on live television. And I think that speaks to both CNN’s ratings as well as what’s going on in America today.”
Cammack’s comments were first highlighted by Mediate.
The remarks came after the Florida representative was asked about an interview Ryan Seacrest did with President Biden and first lady Jill Biden.
“It’s uncomfortable because obviously it is another example of a tone-deaf White House on so many issues. They have ignored the everyday American people,” she said.
Cooper and co-host Andy Cohen have been ringing in the new year on CNN as part of its coverage of the worldwide celebration for the last several years. The two have been known to do occasional shots during the several-hours-long broadcast and engage in comedic banter with guests and one another.
CNN’s at times boozy New Year’s Eve coverage was placed on hiatus briefly last year, when former network President Chris Licht scaled back on-air talent drinking while broadcasting.
Republicans have for years routinely criticized CNN over its coverage of conservatives and former President Trump specifically.
