Trevor Noah on lack of Pelosi nickname from Trump: ‘There is a reverence for her’

Late-night host Trevor Noah on Tuesday said that President Trump has not issued one of his signature nicknames for Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) because “there is a reverence for her” due to her ability to keep her party members united on most issues.

The comments came as “The Daily Show” host interviewed authors Jake Sherman and Anna Palmer about their book, “The Hill to Die On,” which examines the first two years of Trump’s presidency, including an interview with the president from the Oval Office.

{mosads}”Donald Trump told us an amazing thing, it’s the last quote in our book, he says, ‘Democrats stink on policy, are bad politicians, have the worst ideas in the world, but they stick together and Republicans don’t,’ ” said Sherman, who is a reporter for Politico and an NBC/MSNBC contributor.

“And he looks at that, and we’ve seen this throughout the last two years, he looks at Republicans and doesn’t understand why they don’t stick with him. Then he sees Nancy Pelosi keep all her troops in line over almost every issue and doesn’t understand how it happens.”

Noah interjected to say that the comments show why the president has not given the Speaker a nickname.

“That explains why he hasn’t given her a nickname,” Noah said. “Everyone else has sleepy this and lying that — and then for her, it’s ‘Hello Nancy.’ There is a reverence for her. The book details a story told right now and we’re living in it.”

Noah then asked the authors what is ahead for the Trump presidency and the 2020 reelection effort.

“Well, there is definitely impeachment, and Anna and I are in the middle of thinking about this in a new sense, because Nancy Pelosi seems at this moment to be trying to create action so she doesn’t have to impeach him immediately,” Sherman said. “There are a lot of people who want to impeach the president now, now, now. Nancy Pelosi says let’s hold on, let’s do investigations, let’s see where they lead us. She’s not one to ever jump the gun.”

On Tuesday, Pelosi didn’t dismiss the possibility of impeaching Trump while underscoring that Democrats should continue to pursue their various investigations.

“I do believe that impeachment is one of the most divisive forces, paths that we could go down to in our country,” Pelosi said at the Time 100 Summit in New York. “But if the facts, the path of fact-finding takes us there, we have no choice. But we’re not there yet.”

“It may be a place that the facts take us. We shouldn’t impeach for a political reason, and we shouldn’t not impeach for a political reason,” she added.
